IT for heritage organisations

Modern technology in historic places

Abbeys, churches and heritage attractions run like small businesses in very unusual buildings. There are visitor tills and ticketing, a shop and cafe, guest Wi-Fi, events and venue hire, offices for staff and trustees, and often a large team of volunteers.

Getting reliable connectivity through centuries-old stone, across grounds and into outbuildings needs careful planning, and any installation has to respect the fabric of the building. We plan cabling and wireless coverage with that in mind.

DP-Solutions supports organisations including Glastonbury Abbey and Bath Abbey. Our engineers are based in Yeovil, Glastonbury and Wells, so we are close to many of the region’s historic sites.

Heritage IT FAQ

Common questions from heritage organisations

Answers to questions abbeys, churches and visitor attractions often ask us.

Can you get Wi-Fi working in a historic building?

Usually, yes. We survey the site and plan access points and cabling around thick walls, listed features and large grounds, choosing routes that minimise impact on the building.

Can you provide tills and ticketing for our shop and admissions?

Yes. We supply and support EPOS for retail, cafes and admissions, including setups for busy events.

Can guest Wi-Fi be kept separate from our office systems?

Yes. Visitor Wi-Fi is isolated from staff and office networks so the public never has access to internal systems or data.

Do you support volunteers as well as staff?

Yes. We set up accounts and devices so volunteers can do what they need securely, without overcomplicating things.
